How to play truth or dare as a couple
All you need is each other and this page. The game works just as well on a random Tuesday on the couch as on a planned night with candles.
- Pick a level. Start on cozy. You can always go up, and that's easier than going back down.
- Take turns. Whoever starts asks “Truth or dare?” and your partner chooses.
- Truth. Read a question from the list. The answer has to be honest.
- Dare. Read a dare out loud. It happens right away.
- Switch. Now it's your partner's turn to ask you.
- Level up when you both want to. After a few rounds you can move on to flirty and then spicy, if it feels right for both of you.
Three rules that make the game better
- Passing is always okay. Either of you can pass, no explanation needed. You can agree that whoever passes draws a new card instead.
- A safe word counts. Say “stop” or another word you've picked, and you stop right away or drop a level. Nobody has to ask why.
- What's said here stays here. Answers never get used against each other later. That's what makes it safe to be honest.
TipWrite the cards on slips of paper, fold them and put them in three bowls, one per level. Nobody knows what's coming, and switching bowls is an easy way to turn up the heat.

Fun twists on truth or dare for couples
- The dice version. Roll a die. One to three is truth, four to six is dare. Nobody has to choose.
- Secret answers. Write your answers to the truths separately and read them out at the same time. Extra fun if you try to guess what the other one wrote.
- Truths only. Skip the dares and make it a pure conversation. There are plenty more in our list of questions to ask your partner.
- Long distance. Play over video chat or text. The dares change a bit, but they're just as fun.
- At the same time. Each pick a card in secret and reveal them together. That's the idea behind the card game in Hintt, where you play the same card at the same time. Want to try it? Start here.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play truth or dare as a couple?
Take turns asking “truth or dare?” If your partner picks truth, they answer a question honestly. If they pick dare, they do a challenge. Start on a cozy level and turn up the heat when you both want to.
What are good truth or dare questions for adults?
Mix questions about memories and attraction with more direct ones about desire and fantasies, like “What turns you on most about me?” or “Is there something you want to try but haven't said?”
What if I don't want to answer a question or do a dare?
Then you pass. Agree before you start that passing is always okay, and that whoever passes draws a new card. A safe word means either of you can stop at any time.
Can you play truth or dare long distance?
Yes. Play over video chat or text. Pick dares you can do on your own in front of the camera, like singing, dancing or sharing something you've never said.
How do you make truth or dare more exciting?
Level up step by step, draw cards from bowls so nobody knows what's coming, and let whoever just answered choose the next dare. A clear safe word makes both of you braver.
